The Interest-Free Banking & Finance Institute (IBFI) was incorporated in 2019 with a mandate to promote Islamic banking and provide human capital for the Islamic financial services industry in Ethiopia and the African market. IBFI aspires to be the leading African institution for Islamic finance through providing excellent teaching, research, and thought leadership to remove the current necessity for students in the continent to travel abroad in order to access quality education in this field.

IBFI is a research-oriented Islamic financial institution that is the first of its kind in Ethiopia and the whole of Africa. We believe that the opportunities for Islamic Finance professionals are going to be extremely high in Ethiopia based on the current proliferation of Islamic branches of all the major Ethiopian banks in 2019-2020.

With the Islamic Banking Sector moving towards global benchmarking, the requirement for skilled Islamic Finance personnel is already a key issue. We at IBFI believe that we have the ability to accurately anticipate future developments and provide the services necessary to bridge the demand-supply gap for skilled manpower in the Islamic Financial sector. We have taken the initiative to produce skilled professionals and have opted for “EMPOWERING THE ISLAMIC BANKING & FINANCE INDUSTRY” as our motto.
